Acoustic Material Assignment
Before running the Room Acoustics Simulation, surfaces in your model need acoustic materials assigned. These materials carry absorption and diffusion coefficients per octave band, which the simulator uses directly in its calculations.
How to assign materials
- Click the Manage Acoustic Materials button in the SketchAcoustics toolbar
- Click … to add materials to your scene
- Create a custom material or select from the existing library
- Click back (←) to return to the material list
- Select a material and start painting faces in your model
Checking your work
Click the overlay button in the Acoustic Materials panel to show material colours directly on your model. This lets you quickly see which faces have been painted and spot any surfaces you may have missed.
Tips
- All surfaces that bound the room should have a material assigned — unassigned faces will use a default value
- Custom materials let you enter your own absorption coefficients if you have measured or manufacturer data
- You can reassign materials at any time and re-run the simulation to compare results
- Use Section Planes (not hidden geometry) to expose interior surfaces before painting — hidden faces are excluded from the simulation
